Georgia Senate Runoff Volunteer Trip

Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss is in a runoff election against his Democratic opponent for the Georgia Senate Seat, and the RNC is sending young college republicans to campaign! The possibility of the Democrats getting to sixty senate seats becomes eliminated if they lose this seat, so the Republican Party is focusing all of its efforts on keeping it red.

All expenses are paid, including travel, housing, and food. If people need to change their flight plans to return early from break, we are willing to help cover the costs. The Office of Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-49) is accepting applications for internships for the Winter/Spring 2009 term. This internship is an opportunity for students to gain valuable first-hand knowledge of the federal legislative process. Applicants should be energetic, detail-oriented, and responsible. Responsibilities include assisting staff with research and writing projects, as well as performing general Congressional office functions including drafting letters, guiding Capitol tours, and completing special projects as assigned. Congressman John Boozman (R-AR) is seeking a motivated, dependable and professional individual for a 5-month legislative internship (January 2009 - May 2009) opportunity in his Washington D.C. office. The intern’s main duties will be logging constituent correspondence, sorting/coding constituent mail, and legislative research, but may also assist in Capitol tours and other various administrative support tasks. Arkansas ties are encouraged, but not required. Internships may qualify for academic credit upon completion. The George Washington University College Republicans are pleased to bring former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R - MS) to campus next Monday, October 20 to address an audience of G.W. students! Any and all interested students and faculty are invited and encouraged to attend. Business casual dress attire is encouraged, and please arrive 15 minutes early. No large bags or purses will be allowed into the hall.

Senator Trent Lott became Senate Majority Leader for the Republican Party in 1996, and served as either the Majority or Minority Leader of the Senate Republicans until 2003, when he voluntarily stepped down from his leadership role. He presided and shaped many of the sweeping Republican reforms of the late 1990s. He resigned his Senate seat in 2007, yet is still one of the most influential and respected conservative voices in Washington.
