Fall – 2011

Republican Representative Rich Nugent (FL05) is currently seeking full and part-time unpaid fall interns for the months of September – December.  Interns will be responsible for assisting with general office duties (answering phones, passing out mail, checking faxes), and assisting legislative staff with research and writing. Performing constituent services (scheduling tours, processing flag requests, and legislative correspondence) will also be an integral part of each internship. Interns will be encouraged to attend hearings, briefings, and other Congressional proceedings. Additional duties will be assigned according to an intern’s interest and ability.  Must be motivated, detail oriented, possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and the ability to manage multiple tasks on a deadline.  Florida ties are preferred, but are not required.  Please email resume and cover letter to intern.fl5.ushouse@gmail.com with “Fall Internship” in the email subject line.

We ask that you work 10-15 hours a week. Because we are open 24 hours, we have several different shifts to best work with your schedule.

Minimum requirements:

· 2.8 out of a 4.0 GPA

· Willingness to work at least ten (10) hours per week

· Interpersonal communication skills

· A mature and responsible attitude

· Ability to multi-task, prioritize

· Strong writing and speaking skills

· Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Adobe

· Have completed at least one semester of college-level work
prior to beginning the internship

UELIP associates are assigned substantive projects under the supervision of members of the Chancellor’s team. In addition, multiple professional development and networking opportunities are offered throughout the semester. Associates will be able to observe and experience the process of innovative education reform first-hand. Ultimately, the mission of UELIP is to recruit, develop and connect emerging leaders to effect change in D.C. Public Schools in order to make an impact on student achievement.

Time Requirements: At least 20 hours a week with a minimum commitment of 10-11 weeks
Summer Semester
Program Dates: June 6, 2011 – August 19, 2011
Round 1 deadline: December 31, 2010
Round 2 deadline: March 1, 2011
Time Requirements: Full Time, 40 hours a week during the program dates
