Pat Buchanan Event on April 27, 2010
Washington, DC – The George Washington University College Republicans had the
distinct honor of hosting the legendary Patrick J. Buchanan last night in the Elliot School.
A major objective of the organization has been to offer an array of Conservative
perspectives to the student body and Mr. Buchanan’s presence on campus certainly
achieved this goal. Mr. Buchanan, referring to himself as an “anti-war (unless its
necessary) Conservative,” offered the paleoconservative approach to foreign policy to a
crowd of about 80.
Mr. Buchanan was eager to engage with the student audience in noting his observations
of the Tea Party as a re-occurring movement, US-Russian relations as a product of our
own making, and the Arizona Immigration Bill as the result of a gridlocked Congress
and an Executive that weakly enforces federal law.
The event was a testament to the successful transition from the 2009-2010 Executive
Board to the 2010-2011 Executive Board, with the planning of the event coordinated by
the former, while the new Executive Board hosted the evening. Following the event, the
GWCRs helped the College Republican National Committee film a video capturing the
very real impact the deficit has on our generation’s future.
Next semester, the GWCRs look forward to fighting against such fiscal irresponsibility
taking place here in Washington, hosting additional promoted speakers and especially
look forward to turning Mr. Buchanan’s positive predictions for the GOP into reality on
the 2010 campaign trails.
