A Letter from Chairman Brandon Hines
A Letter from Chairman Brandon Hines
To the Freshman Class,
While I know many have already extended their warm welcome to you and your family, let me be the first to do so on behalf of the GW College Republicans! Congratulations on your acceptance to GW, welcome, and thank you for seeking us out at Colonial Inauguration!
We are eager and excited for your arrival here this fall. You may not realize it yet, but our organization needs you. Year after year, the freshman class has always been the backbone of our efforts on campus, on Capitol Hill, and on the campaign trail. This year will be no different. With competitive gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey, and important debates in Congress about health care reform, the economy, and a whole horde of other critical issues, the Republican Party needs boots on the ground to lobby members of Congress, knock on doors, make calls for candidates, and to speak-up in the classroom. Plainly, we need you right now!
As an incoming freshman, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the number of different activities going on here at GW. But, the College Republicans, a bright spot of red in DC, offers you a unique opportunity to engage yourself in Washington and find a place you can call home among friends and like-minded conservatives.
Because of my involvement with the College Republicans, I have met people and gone places I could not foresee and will not forget. I have enjoyed the opportunity of campaigning for our party’s leaders, the excitement and thrill of watching the CRs host speakers such as Newt Gingrich and John Ashcroft, and the privilege of internships at places like the Department of Homeland Security, to halls of Congress, and even The White House.
When the Admissions Department told you that “something happens here,” they weren’t joking. Looking back on my time at GW, with still so much left to look forward to, I can say without hesitation that, in fact, something does happen here. Over your next four years we hope that you will add to the richness of your experience at GW with the GW College Republicans.
Again, congratulations, welcome, and my very best wishes,
Sincerely

Brandon James Hines
